THE PROJECT
The idea of building the world’s largest moose on the top of Vithatten Mountain was conceived at the end of the 90s, during the many moose safaris Thorbjörn Holmlund organised through the wilderness facility Svansele Vildmarkscenter. With his broad experience of eco-tourism, Holmlund saw the opportunity in creating a centre for adventure tourism for both Swedish and foreign visitors. Apart from attractive conference venues and a top-class restaurant, the facility will also offer activities such as snowmobile safaris, sled-dog tours, hunting, fishing and guided nature walks. The project was granted an environmental licence in 2007, and a building permit was granted by both Skellefteå and Arvidsjaur municipal governments during 2008. The goal is that the facility will open its doors to the public in 2010.
